Life is Like That (1995)

Jerry Miller Band

Bass and lead vocals on Never

Jerry Miller was a founding member and lead guitar player for Moby Grape. There was not another band like that in all the Bay Area during that time. Moby Grape was a big part of the success of the San Francisco music scene in the 60’s. They had incredible songs and all the band members sang. Everyone was so talented and they brought out each other's uniqueness in how they performed as a band. Plus, they were all good looking. Jerry being one of them!

I played with Jerry and “Fuzzy” John Oxendine for thirty-one years, from 1993 to 2024, in the Jerry Miller Band. It was a great jam every time we played. Our songs were merely a launching pad for going into new riffs and licks. With just the three of us it was easy to go where we wanted. I got to play with Jerry on the Moby Grape reunion tour in 1995. Bob, the original bass player, wasn't playing bass anymore, so I filled in.

The last place I played with Jerry before he passed was at The Brookdale Lodge in Ben Lomond. Jerry was my jam buddy. We improvised freely for years. Jerry was a very genuine and good friend to me during a really hard time in my life. I've been listening to him since I was a teenager, it was a real honor for me to be able to play with him. You had to see us and hear us to fully understand what we were able to create together.
