Music Man Sabre (1978 - 1980)

I played a Music Man Sabre bass at the Grammys in 1980 when we took home two awards. Best Record of the Year for Minute by Minute and Best Song of the Year for “What a Fool Believes.” The 22nd Grammys were at the Shrine Auditorium, where I had seen many concerts as a teenager. I saw Jimi Hendrix on that stage and that night I thought; wow,...now I'm here! I also saw Buffalo Springfield and Creedence Clearwater Revival, Mike Bloomfield's Electric Fly and The Grateful Dead at the Shrine. I played the Music Man on most of the album One Step Closer. The bass that I had was one that Leo Fender made for Music Man while he was a silent partner.

From Music Man Customer Service when inquiring about the bass:

It looks like this is an original Music Man Sabre bass, introduced in 1978. Ernie Ball acquired Music Man in 1984, and we do not have a record for before this period. This is unfortunately the extent of the information we have available for these basses.

Please give our regards to Tiran.
